The Deputy President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and former President‑General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria, Comrade (Prince) Dr. Adewale Adeyanju, has extended warm Easter greetings to Christians in Nigeria and across the world. He expressed hope that the season of resurrection will usher in a better world—one marked by peace, justice, and freedom from calamities.
Adeyanju reflected on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who laid down His life not as a sinner but as a demonstration of God’s boundless love for humanity. Quoting the Bible, he reminded believers: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” He emphasized that Christ’s death and resurrection symbolize reconciliation between man and God, crowning Him the “Prince of Peace.”
Turning to Nigeria’s present challenges, Adeyanju urged citizens to remain resilient despite insurgencies, kidnappings, and displacement in many parts of the country. He condemned the senseless killings and ransom demands by terrorists, stressing that such acts contradict the teachings of the Holy Books.
The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) President further appealed to armed groups in Nigeria and globally—especially in the Middle East—to abandon violence and embrace dialogue, noting that “War‑War cannot bring peace, but Jaw‑Jaw does.”
Adeyanju prayed for Nigeria’s peace and asked God to forgive the sins of nations, urging all people, regardless of tribe, tongue, or religion, to emulate Christ’s humility, patience, and sacrifice. He also called on the federal government to restore the “On‑Board Vessels Tally‑Clerks” system to strengthen accountability in maritime operations and safeguard government revenue.
Finally, he thanked Nigerians at home and in the diaspora for their courage and commitment to the nation, encouraging everyone to use the Easter season to reflect on the life of Jesus Christ, who embodied love, endurance, and kindness.
