The Port and Terminal Multi-services Limited (PTML) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has formally handed over a cache of seized arms and ammunition to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) today, Friday, 30th January. Recall that Ogun 1 Customs Command handed over seized arms and ammunition to NCCSALW on Thursday, 29th January.
Speaking at the ceremony, Comptroller Joe Anani, Customs Area Controller of PTML Command, said the handover underscores the Service’s determination to combat smuggling, protect legitimate trade, and strengthen inter-agency collaboration.
The seizures, approved by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR psc(+), include five pistols of different make, one Crossman Pump Master rifle, 132 Remington live cartridges, 51 rounds of 9mm Luger live ammunition, four 9mm magazines, 40 rounds of 9mm blank and hollow ammunition, and 118 empty 9mm shells.
According to Anani, the items were intercepted on 25 different occasions between 2022 and 2025 during examinations of imported vehicles. He stressed that PTML remains a “no-go area for unlawful trade under any guise.”
Highlighting the role of technology, Anani noted that the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), also known as B’Odogwu, has boosted productivity under the ongoing Customs Modernisation Project. He announced that scanners will soon be deployed to further enhance detection of concealed contraband.
The Controller also commended compliant stakeholders for their cooperation, pointing out that the command had collected ₦44.05 billion in revenue as of January 28, surpassing the ₦40.49 billion recorded in January 2025 by ₦3.56 billion — an 8.8 percent increase.
On behalf of the Comptroller General, Anani formally handed over the seized arms and ammunition to the NCCSALW for appropriate action.
