In a historic moment for Nigeria’s maritime legal community, Chief Mrs Jean Chiazor Anishere emerged as President of the Maritime Arbitrators Association of Nigeria (MAAN) during its 19th Annual General Meeting, held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at DRV Chambers, Oniru Estate, Lagos.
Anishere, who currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Consultative Council (NPCC) and is the immediate past Vice President of MAAN, was elected to lead the association as it marks its 20th year of existence.
In her acceptance speech, Anishere expressed deep gratitude and humility:
“Today makes it exactly 20 years since this association was founded. I feel highly honored to be elected as President of MAAN.”
She called on her predecessor, Mr. Bodunrin Adewole, and other past presidents to continue offering their guidance and support:
“I humbly ask that you do not leave me alone in this journey. Let us do this presidency together so we can all achieve success.”
Reflecting on the milestone, she added with a touch of humour, “It means I’m getting older—even though I don’t have grey hairs yet!”
Anishere also moved for the adoption of the previous meeting’s minutes, noting the absence of objections and emphasizing continuity and unity within the association.
Joining her on the newly elected executive team are: Sir Osuala Nwagbara – Vice President, Mrs. Foluke Akinmoladun – Secretary, and Chief Ben Onwuma – Treasurer
The AGM not only marked a leadership transition but also celebrated two decades of MAAN’s contributions to maritime arbitration in Nigeria.
