The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke has led a delegation of the agency’s Standards Council to the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment in Abuja as part of efforts to deepen cooperation on national standards and industrial development.
Dr. Okeke was accompanied by the Chairman of the SON Standards Council, Hon. Yahuza Ado Inuwa, during the courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ambassador Nura Abba Rimi, was also present at the meeting.
A statement from the organisation said the visit was aimed at strengthening institutional alignment between SON and the Ministry, particularly in the areas of product quality regulation, industrial competitiveness, and consumer protection.
The Minister welcomed the delegation and reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to supporting SON’s regulatory mandate, noting that improved standards enforcement was essential for economic growth, export readiness, and safeguarding Nigerian consumers.
She added that the Ministry would continue to work closely with SON to ensure that industrial operators comply with national and international benchmarks, especially as Nigeria expands its participation in continental and global trade frameworks.
The meeting also discussed ongoing reforms within the agency, the role of the Standards Council, and strategic priorities for the coming year aimed at improving service delivery and stakeholder engagement.
