CGC Adeniyi Earns PhD in Leadership and Strategic Studies

On Saturday, November 18, 2025, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, added another feather to his cap by earning a PhD in Leadership and Strategic Studies from the Federal University of Lokoja.

This academic achievement crowns a distinguished career marked by visionary leadership, institutional reform, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Dr. Adeniyi’s pursuit of knowledge began early and has remained a constant throughout his life as he bagged BSc in International Relations from Obafemi Awolowo University (formerly University of Ife), 1987. In 2013, he received MA in Communication Science – Università della Svizzera Italiana, Lugano, and now PhD in Leadership and Strategic Studies from Federal University of Lokoja.

Since joining the NCS, Dr. Adeniyi has held pivotal roles which include National Public Relations Officer, Area Controller, MMIA Ikeja, Commandant, Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada. He was appointed Comptroller-General in August, 2023.

His tenure has been defined by bold reforms focused on modernization, transparency, trade facilitation, and revenue optimization. Under his leadership, the NCS has recorded increased monthly revenue collection; reduced illicit checkpoints; and enhanced enforcement capabilities.

Dr. Adeniyi’s contributions accolades both at home and abroad include : Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) – October 2022; Chairperson, WCO Council – June 2025 (first Nigerian to hold the position).

This doctorate is more than a personal milestone—it’s a strategic asset. It reflects Dr. Adeniyi’s deep commitment to blending academic insight with practical leadership, positioning him to steer Nigeria’s border management and trade logistics into a new era.
