On August 5, 2025, the President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, accompanied by his national executive team, paid a courtesy visit to the Western Port Authority Police Command in Apapa, Lagos. The delegation was warmly received by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olanrewaju Ishola, along with senior officers and personnel of the Command.
The visit was aimed at fostering a stronger working relationship between the Port Authority Police Command and MWUN, with a shared commitment to:
– Enhancing security and safety across Nigeria’s maritime corridors.
– Promoting sustainable collaboration between law enforcement and maritime stakeholders.
– Ensuring seamless operations at the nation’s sea ports.
Comrade Bunu, an Izon-born maritime expert from Delta State, lauded the Command’s strategic efforts in securing the port environment and maintaining relative peace. He reaffirmed MWUN’s dedication to cooperation, stating that the Union’s doors remain open for continued synergy with the Police to ensure smooth and secure port operations.
CP Ishola expressed appreciation for MWUN’s transparent and proactive leadership, noting that the current peace and stability within the ports would not have been possible without the Union’s support and collaboration. He emphasized the Command’s high regard for MWUN and its role in the maritime sector.
