The Kanwan Katsina and District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, mni, has congratulated the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) on its 75th anniversary, describing the milestone as a testament to resilience and excellence in public broadcasting.
In a statement signed by his Media Aide, Sarkin Labarun Kanwan Katsina, Jamilu Hashimu Gora, the monarch reflected on his early career with FRCN Kaduna, where he served as a roving correspondent in 1976 before proceeding to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He recalled working under News Manager Abdulaziz Oladimeji, noting that the experience laid a solid foundation for his future career, including his role as Public Relations Officer in the Nigeria Customs Service.
Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara commended the management and staff for their commitment to educating, informing, and entertaining Nigerians over the decades. He highlighted the evolution from analogue to digital broadcasting, applauded the establishment of the New Media Directorate, and urged greater use of social media to expand audience reach.
The traditional ruler, however, expressed concern over persistent power challenges affecting FRCN Kaduna, sometimes forcing the station off air for hours. He advised management to consider solar energy solutions to ensure uninterrupted transmission, stressing that millions in Northern Nigeria depend on the station for news and education.
Reaffirming his confidence in FRCN’s capacity to evolve in line with global best practices, the Kanwan Katsina described the corporation as a trusted voice in Nigeria’s media landscape.
