The National Assembly has passed a vote of confidence in Tantita Security Services, security agencies, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for their roles in safeguarding Nigeria’s oil infrastructure.
Lawmakers dismissed petitions against the surveillance contract, noting that the initiative has curbed crude oil theft, reduced vandalism, and boosted production to 1.8 million barrels per day—up from 900,000 in 2022.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen emphasized that community participation and private security collaboration have been vital, creating jobs in the Niger Delta and strengthening Nigeria’s credibility as a reliable energy supplier. He acknowledged challenges in transparency and accountability but reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to oversight under the Petroleum Industry Act.
