The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has commended the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) for conducting a seamless and rancour-free leadership transition.
During a courtesy visit by MARAN’s newly elected Executive Committee, the General Manager, Corporate Communication and Strategy of NPA, Ikechukwu Onyemachara, praised the association for its transparent electoral process and strong administrative structure, which he said reflect unity and stability.
Mr. Onyemachara noted that while some organizations struggle with caretaker committees seeking tenure elongation—often leading to division—MARAN avoided such pitfalls by ensuring a peaceful and credible election. He also applauded the association for honoring its past leaders, describing the gesture as a mark of respect for continuity and institutional strength.
He urged the new Executive Committee, led by President Oluyinka Onigbinde, to remain focused and continue constructive engagement with stakeholders to advance Nigeria’s maritime sector.
In his remarks, Mr. Onigbinde expressed gratitude to the NPA for its longstanding support and emphasized MARAN’s commitment to deepening collaboration on future initiatives.
MARAN’s election, held on May 7, produced a seven-member Executive Committee. The elected officers include Oluyinka Onigbinde – President,
Sylvanus Obasi – Vice President, Fabian Anawo – Secretary General, Amina Ojelabi – Assistant Secretary General, Ruth Sunday – Treasurer, Ambrose Okehi – Financial Secretary, and Providence Ayanfeoluwa – Public Relations Officer.
