The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has distanced itself from Barr. Ladipo Johnson, spokesperson of the Kwankwasiya Movement, insisting he was never a legitimate member of the party.
Johnson, a lawyer who often issued statements as NNPP publicity secretary under Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso’s faction, announced his resignation in a letter dated May 4, 2026, addressed to the NNPP Ward G1 chairman in Surulere, Lagos. He cited the need for a “broader national realignment of the opposition.”
But in a statement on Friday, NNPP National Secretary, Comrade Ogini Olaposi, dismissed Johnson’s claim, saying he had long been expelled for anti-party activities.
“Kwankwaso and Buba Galadima have openly joined other parties. Yet, some of their followers still parade themselves as NNPP members, issuing statements in favor of Kwankwaso’s new platforms,” Olaposi said.
He noted that both the Appeal Court in Owerri and the FCT High Court had affirmed the expulsion of Kwankwaso, Galadima, and their associates.
Olaposi further criticized INEC for failing to update its records to reflect NNPP’s authentic leadership despite multiple court orders.
“It is regrettable that INEC continues to disobey directives, even after the Appeal Court ordered updates within 72 hours. Thirty days later, nothing has changed,” he added.
According to NNPP, Johnson’s resignation is misleading since he had no membership to resign from.
