Oluyinka Onigbinde, Assistant Editor of Shipping Position Daily, has been elected President of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) following a keenly contested elective congress.
Onigbinde secured 20 votes to defeat veteran maritime journalist Reverend John Iwori, who polled 13 votes out of a total of 33 cast.
The election also produced other executives who will steer the affairs of MARAN in the new tenure: Vice President: Obasi Sylvanus (unopposed), General Secretary: Fabian Anawo, Assistant General Secretary: Ojelabi Amina, Public Relations Officer (PRO): Ayanfeoluwa Providence, Treasurer: Ruth Umuna, and Financial Secretary: Ambrose Okehi (unopposed).
The newly elected leadership is expected to promote professionalism, welfare, and unity among members of the association while strengthening MARAN’s role in Nigeria’s maritime industry.
