The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has elected new executives to lead its Cooperative Multipurpose Society during the Union’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on February 13, 2026, at its Secretariat, Osho-Drive, Lagos.
In his valedictory speech, Comrade Ayokunle Ajayi, the pioneer President of the Cooperative Society and current Deputy Secretary-General (Organizing & Operations), expressed gratitude to the Union for entrusting him with the responsibility of managing members’ funds. He commended his outgoing team for their dedication, prudence, and sincerity of purpose, noting that they built the Cooperative from scratch since his appointment in 2019.
Ajayi highlighted the Cooperative’s core function of providing loans to members at modest interest rates to support welfare and financial stability. He assured members that their funds remain safe, audited, and duly submitted to the Lagos State Government as required by law. He also praised the Apapa Cooperative Area Officer and her team for effective oversight and thanked the Union’s leadership for their unwavering support.
The outgoing President lauded Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, MWUN President-General, for ensuring prompt remittance of members’ cooperative deductions, which has strengthened confidence in the Society. He also acknowledged Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, immediate past President-General, for his visionary initiative in establishing the Cooperative.
At the AGM, Ajayi announced the newly elected executives as Comrade Micah Iddio – President, Comrade Wole Adetumi – Vice President, Comrade Serifat Ogbeide – Treasurer, Comrade Ade Ayo Rasheed – Secretary, Comrade Ruben Erujaro – Assistant Secretary,
Comrade Grace Olatunji, – Ex-Officio, and
– Comrade Ayokunle Ajayi – Ex-Officio.
