The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, together with Comptroller Aminu Sule of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone B, conducted an inspection exercise to assess compliance with transit procedures along the Tsamiya–Segbana–Kamba corridor.
The inspection followed the recent reopening of the Tsamiya/Segbana border for transit operations, approved by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD. The exercise covered the Maje border route through to Kamba.
The event drew several notable figures, including Senator Ahmed Tijjani Affor Obo of the Republic of Benin, Commander Maigizo Yahaya Tubil of the Bureau de Douane, Niger Republic, Chief of Staff, Kebbi State Government, Barrister Attahiru Maccido, and Chairman of Stakeholders, Kebbi State, Alhaji Idi Bagudo.
Comptroller Matawalle emphasized that the assignment aimed to ensure strict adherence to approved procedures governing the transit of legitimate goods across Nigeria’s borders with Benin and Niger. He cautioned against diversion of transit trucks for local consumption and urged traditional rulers and host communities to cooperate with the Nigeria Customs Service. Comptroller Sule assured stakeholders of the Federal Operations Unit’s support, pledging assistance to facilitate trade across international borders in line with the Service’s mandate.
Representatives of Benin and Niger Customs expressed appreciation to President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, GCFR, the Kebbi State Government, and the Comptroller-General of Customs for fostering dialogue and enabling legitimate trade.
District Head of Kamba, Alhaji Mamuda Zarumai (Sarkin Shikon Kamba) pledged community cooperation, stressing the initiative’s benefits for Nigerians.
Stakeholders’ Chairman, Alhaji Idi Bagudo reaffirmed commitment to compliance and vowed to prevent diversion of trucks from their approved destinations.
The inspection exercise concluded with the escort of transit trucks from Kamba across the border to Tungan Kado in Niger Republic, symbolizing renewed trust and cooperation among Nigeria, Benin, and Niger in strengthening regional trade.
