The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has announced that the Ikorodu Ferry Terminal will officially reopen for passenger operations on Monday, January 19, 2026, following a three-month closure due to navigational hazards.
The terminal was shut down on October 20, 2025, after a severe water hyacinth infestation rendered the waterway unsafe for ferry navigation. During the closure, ferry services were temporarily rerouted to Ibeshe Terminal and Offin Jetty, ensuring continued access for commuters in the Ikorodu axis.
According to LASWA, the decision to reopen the terminal comes after the successful clearance of the invasive water plants, comprehensive safety assessments, and consultations with the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
“All ferry operators are hereby directed to resume normal services in line with their approved schedules,” the statement read. “Operators must also ensure full compliance with all existing safety and operational requirements.”
The reopening is expected to ease commuter traffic and restore convenience for thousands of daily passengers who rely on the Ikorodu terminal for their transportation needs.
