The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Western Marine Command, has achieved a significant milestone in its anti-smuggling efforts with the interception of 20 sacks of Cannabis Indica, comprising 1,205 loaves, with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦157,830,000.
Speaking to the press, Comptroller Patrick Ntadi, Area Controller of the Command, revealed that the seizure was made during a recent operation targeting illicit activities along Nigeria’s waterways. The contraband was carefully concealed and suspected to have been smuggled into the country through maritime routes.
“This operation reflects our unwavering commitment to securing Nigeria’s borders, protecting the economy, and upholding the rule of law,” Comptroller Ntadi stated.
In addition to enforcement, the Command has also played a vital role in trade facilitation. During the review period, the Western Marine Container Escort Team successfully escorted 21,414 containers from seaports to bonded terminals, ensuring compliance with customs regulations and promoting efficient cargo movement.
Comptroller Ntadi credited the Command’s success to the strategic leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Adewale Bashir Adeniyi, MFR, psc+, as well as enhanced intelligence gathering and strong collaboration with other security agencies, including the Nigerian Navy, NDLEA, Marine Police, and Nigeria Immigration Service.
Reaffirming the Command’s dedication, he concluded, “We remain resolute in our mission to combat smuggling and all forms of illegal trade that threaten national security and economic stability.”
