The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reiterated its unwavering commitment to facilitating legitimate trade through strict adherence to regulatory compliance. This assurance was given by the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, during his official working visit to the Kano/Jigawa Area Command on Thursday, 19 December 2025.
Addressing officers of the Command, CGC Adeniyi emphasized that sustainable trade facilitation hinges on transparency, integrity, and full compliance with Customs laws. He urged officers to remain disciplined and professional, noting that the Service’s credibility is directly tied to the conduct of its personnel.
“The strength of the Nigeria Customs Service lies in the integrity, dedication, and discipline of its officers. Without these core values, neither trade facilitation nor national development can be sustainably achieved,” he stated.
The CGC commended Comptroller Dalhatu Abubakar, Area Controller of the Kano/Jigawa Command, for his exemplary leadership, particularly in revenue generation and stakeholder engagement. He praised Abubakar’s efforts in fostering strong partnerships, noting his recognition as the best-performing Area Controller in stakeholder management.
During an interactive session with stakeholders, CGC Adeniyi reaffirmed the Service’s openness to innovative ideas that enhance trade efficiency, provided they align with established procedures. He highlighted the impact of the indigenous Customs clearance platform, B’Odogwu, in improving transparency and operational efficiency.
He also noted the success of electronic tracking devices for transit containers, which have led to the interception of diverted consignments and the arrest of offenders.
“Technology will make it increasingly difficult for anyone to divert cargo. We are already seeing results, and we will sustain this momentum,” he assured.
Comptroller Abubakar expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their continued support, describing their collaboration as a testament to mutual trust and shared responsibility. He emphasized that the Command’s achievements are a product of this strong partnership.
