The Tin Can Island Port Command (TCIPC) of the Nigeria Customs Service, under the leadership of Comptroller Frank Okechukwu Onyeka, has achieved a remarkable milestone—generating ₦1.45 trillion in revenue between January and November 2025. This performance underscores the Command’s resilience and operational excellence, even amid a major systems transition.
Despite the challenges of migrating from NICIS II to the new Unified Customs Management System, known as the B’Odogwu platform, the Command recorded ₦135.21 billion in revenue in November alone—its fourth-highest monthly intake this year. This figure significantly exceeds the ₦120.19 billion collected in November 2024.
From January to November 2025, the Command amassed a total of ₦1.45 trillion, reflecting Comptroller Onyeka’s strategic focus on revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling enforcement.
In October, the Command intercepted and seized illicit substances—including cannabis indica and methamphetamine—concealed in imported containers. The street value of these seizures was estimated at ₦5.3 billion, reinforcing the Command’s commitment to national security and public safety.
Comptroller Onyeka has championed the use of modern trade tools such as the Advance Ruling System and the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme to streamline operations and enhance compliance. His leadership has also emphasized stakeholder engagement, dismantling operational bottlenecks, and preparing for the upcoming National Single Window project set to launch in January.
At the recent Comptroller-General of Customs Conference, the Tin Can Island Port Command received two prestigious awards: Best in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Special Award in B’Odogwu Implementation.
These accolades highlight the Command’s outstanding contributions to national development and its effective adoption of new technologies.
Officers at the Command describe 2025 as a “record-breaking year,” noting that despite initial challenges with the new software platform, operations have become more efficient and enforcement more robust. Illegitimate traders now find the port increasingly inhospitable, thanks to heightened compliance and vigilance.
Comptroller Onyeka, known for his quiet but firm leadership, remains focused on facilitating legitimate trade, safeguarding the national economy, and maximizing revenue collection.
As the Command celebrates its achievements, expectations are high that this momentum will continue—driving further innovation, closing loopholes, and contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic growth.
