The Controller General Of the Nigerian Custom Service NCS Wale Adeniyi has charged officers and men of the Nigerian Custom service to be more proactive and uphold ethical standards and maintain professionalism as the organisation intensify effort to facilitate reform and enhance regional cooperation. The CGC made the remarks in Abuja on Thursday 20th November 2025 at the opening of 2025 Controller General of Customs CGC conference with the theme” Building Future Partnership , lesson from Custom’s partnership for African Cooperation in Trade ( PACT) The two days conference was aimed at consolidating the gains of the recently concluded Custom PACT jointly sponsored by the NCS and Afrexbankwth the support from the world Custom Organization WCO to reposition African Trade within the framework of the African Continental Free trade area ( AFCFTA).
In his opening speech , the CGC emphasised the need for professional conduct, regulatory compliance and operational integrity which is the core foundation of Custom operations across all command.
He however regretted that some reforms initiated by previous administration were abandoned by each succeeding administration, reminding officers to be institutional minded rather than being ego centred .He challenged participants to come up with a realistic and sustainable solutions to mitigate some operational challenges warning against stop gap which always proves counterproductive .
