The former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, arrived the headquarters of Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) this morning to answer questions regarding her tenure.
The anti-graft agency had invited the former minister to provide answers to issues under investigation, specifically concerning the alleged laundering of N37.1 billion during her tenure.
Expressing pride in her service to the nation, Umar-Farouq said that “I will defend my actions, stewardship, and programs during my tenure whenever I am called upon to do so.”
Her willingness to cooperate came in a letter after a previous failure to attend the EFCC invitation.
In the letter of apology, she explained her initial non-appearance, indicating her willingness to engage with the commission.
The allegations of financial misconduct have raised eyebrows, prompting the EFCC to delve into the matter.
It would be recalled that she claimed in 2020 during the Covid-19 Lockdown that she was feeding school children across the nation.
When asked how she was doing it she claimed that her ministry was taking food to the school children’s houses.
