President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the newly constructed Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone \u2018A\u2019 office complex of the Nigeria Customs Service in Iperu, Ogun State, marking a major milestone in the Service\u2019s expansion and reform agenda.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the ceremony on Saturday, April 4, 2026, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, said the project was driven by the need to balance the Service\u2019s core mandates of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and enforcement with improved welfare and working conditions for personnel. He explained that the relocation became necessary due to rising operational demands and limited space at the Ikeja, Lagos facility.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve just commissioned the Federal Operations Unit; they will be moving here as soon as possible. It\u2019s already furnished, with accessories installed to ensure proper functioning. A modern armoury has been provided, and the warehouse opposite this facility will complement the one at the nearby aviation village,\u201d Adeniyi stated.<\/p>\n
The CGC commended Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun for his partnership in the relocation project and paid tribute to his predecessor, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd), for initiating the development, describing his efforts as foundational to the current progress.<\/p>\n
On funding, Adeniyi disclosed that the project was initially estimated at \u20a673 billion, but noted that evolving economic realities may necessitate a review of the approved cost.<\/p>\n
He further revealed that Customs officers have already commenced operations at the newly commissioned cargo airport nearby, actively engaging in terminal operations and cargo handling.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re already at the airport. Our officers performed tallying when Mr President witnessed the offloading of the first cargo. Facilities have been provided for us there,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The expansive project site is expected to house about 142 buildings, including a training college, multipurpose halls, and a sports complex, reinforcing the Service\u2019s long-term vision for modernization and institutional growth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
