The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, on Friday, 27 March 2026, marked International Women\u2019s Day with an unexpected tribute to female officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). <\/p>\n
Held at the Customs House in Maitama, the event drew a large crowd of officers across ranks, alongside members of the Customs Officers\u2019 Wives Association. Each attendee received a rose, symbolizing resilience, commitment, and service to the nation. <\/p>\n
In his remarks, Adeniyi explained that the gathering was deliberately designed to break from routine ceremonies and spotlight women whose contributions often go unnoticed. <\/p>\n
\u201cI know you did not come here expecting this. That is exactly the point. Too often, recognition comes only when it is convenient or when it fits neatly into a calendar. Today, we chose to do something different,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
Acknowledging the Service\u2019s paramilitary structure, Adeniyi stressed that while tradition and hierarchy remain important, the day was about unity and appreciation. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a paramilitary organisation, and we are guided by tradition and protocol. But today, we are united by a common purpose\u2014to celebrate the women of the Nigeria Customs Service.\u201d <\/p>\n
He praised female officers as indispensable to the Service\u2019s operations, commending their professionalism and dedication across formations nationwide. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou are central to what we do. I want to appreciate all of you serving in different capacities across the country for your resilience and commitment to duty.\u201d <\/p>\n
The Comptroller-General emphasized that the initiative was not only about recognition but also about reinforcing a culture that values hard work and dedication, irrespective of gender. <\/p>\n
In her remarks, the National President of the Customs Officers\u2019 Wives Association, and wife of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Kikelomo Adeniyi, described the gathering as a significant moment to celebrate the strength and contributions of women within the Customs community.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is indeed a special occasion for us to recognise the resilience, dedication and hard work of women who continue to support the Service both directly and indirectly.\u201d She said.<\/p>\n
She commended the Comptroller-General for his consistent support for women, noting that his leadership has created opportunities for growth and inclusion within the Service.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur women are not just supporting actors; they are active contributors to the progress we are recording as a Service. Through various initiatives, we have continued to empower women and families, and this aligns with the broader reform agenda of the Nigeria Customs Service.\u201d She said.<\/p>\n
