The Maritime Workers\u2019 Union of Nigeria (MWUN), under the leadership of President-General Comrade Francis Bunu Abi and his executives, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of Comrade (Chief) Alfred Etete, a retired Vice President-General of the Union\u2019s Seamen, NIWA & Water Transport Branch.<\/p>\n
Chief Etete, a respected community leader in Agwut-Obolo, Rivers State, was reportedly shot dead in his residence by gunmen. His death has been described by the Union as a shocking and painful loss.<\/p>\n
Comrade Etete served MWUN with distinction, earning admiration for his integrity, diligence, and unwavering commitment to duty until his retirement. He later dedicated his vast experience to the service of his community, where he continued to be a role model and mentor until his life was tragically cut short.<\/p>\n
Speaking on behalf of the Union, Comrade Bunu described the late Etete as \u201ca fine gentleman, a Comrade par excellence, and a versatile labour activist whose strong penchant for relating with colleagues was unmatched.\u201d He added that Etete was \u201ca jolly good Comrade who came, saw, and conquered.\u201d<\/p>\n
MWUN has called on security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police, to urgently investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice. \u201cNobody has the monopoly of life. No one has the right to take another\u2019s life in cold blood for any reason whatsoever,\u201d Comrade Bunu stressed.<\/p>\n
The Union extended heartfelt condolences to the family of Chief Etete, praying for divine comfort and strength. \u201cWe believe Almighty God will not forsake the family he left behind,\u201d Comrade Bunu said.<\/p>\n
MWUN reaffirmed its commitment to justice, urging authorities to ensure that the killers are fished out for the sake of posterity and peace.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
