The Maritime Workers\u2019 Union of Nigeria (MWUN), under the leadership of Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has congratulated members of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for their contributions to Nigeria\u2019s successful election into Category \u2018C\u2019 of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council for the 2026\u20132027 biennium. <\/p>\n
Comrade Abi described Nigeria\u2019s victory on November 28, 2025, in London\u2014where the country secured a seat on the IMO Council\u2014as a landmark achievement in the nation\u2019s maritime history and diplomatic engagements. He emphasized that the feat was remarkable, commendable, and worthy of national celebration. <\/p>\n
The Union praised the committee\u2019s efforts as pivotal in advancing Nigeria\u2019s maritime reforms and showcasing the country\u2019s capability on the global stage, thereby strengthening Nigeria\u2019s position within the international maritime community. <\/p>\n
While expressing gratitude to Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, for his leadership, Comrade Abi also highlighted the effectiveness of the committee members. He noted that their work has reignited Nigeria\u2019s commitment to IMO objectives and enhanced international maritime cooperation.
