Niger Delta activist, Comrade Preye Tambou, has urged ethnic champions and pressure groups in Delta State to reconsider their opposition to the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited. He warned that politicizing the deal along ethnic lines could undermine national security and reverse recent gains in the oil and gas sector.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued on Sunday in Warri, Tambou noted that Nigeria\u2019s crude oil production has improved significantly since Tantita assumed surveillance duties, following a period of record lows. He argued that calls for cancellation or redistribution of the contract based on ethnic considerations were misguided.<\/p>\n
\u201cPipeline surveillance is a federal security contract, not a common wealth to be shared among ethnic groups or communities,\u201d Tambou said. \u201cOil is a national asset belonging to Nigeria, as clearly provided for in the Constitution and the Petroleum Industry Act.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tambou stressed that the contract was awarded on merit and operational competence, not ethnic affiliation. He cautioned that framing the issue as an ethnic debate only breeds division and weakens collective security.
