The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has opened the 2026 fiscal year on a high, raking in \u20a62 billion within just three weeks of operations. <\/p>\n
Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Wale Adenuga disclosed the figures during a courtesy visit by the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) on January 21, noting that the command is determined to surpass its \u20a615.6 billion revenue haul in 2025. <\/p>\n
Adenuga attributed the strong start to deliberate measures aimed at blocking leakages and tightening compliance, backed by the unwavering support of Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi and the NCS management team. <\/p>\n
Beyond revenue, Adenuga emphasized intensified anti-smuggling efforts,
\ninsisting that enforcement would not be sacrificed for revenue.<\/p>\n
He hinted that Customs operatives are now extending their surveillance beyond bush paths and creeks to markets and other distribution points where smuggled goods are sold openly.<\/p>\n
As part of this renewed clampdown, Adenuga disclosed that the command recently raided Badagry market, impounding over 200 bags of smuggled rice from a notorious sales point at the Badagry roundabout.<\/p>\n
He explained that smugglers usually ferry the rice through creeks before assembling and selling it at the location, despite repeated warnings to desist from the illegal activity.<\/p>\n
Adenuga noted that appeals had even been made to the late Oba of Badagry, before his passing, to caution traders involved in the illicit business to vacate the area.
\nHe vowed that the raids would be sustained until the Badagry roundabout is completely cleared of smuggled rice and other illegal activities.<\/p>\n
The controller also pledged the command\u2019s support for MARAN, assuring the association of collaboration on programmes that would promote professionalism and accurate reportage of Customs activities.<\/p>\n
Earlier, MARAN Chairman, Ayodele, congratulated Adenuga on his appointment as Controller of Seme Command, describing it as a testament to his growing profile and the confidence reposed in him by NCS management.
\nHe praised the visible transformation and renewed vibrancy at the Seme border since Adenuga assumed office, saying the changes were already evident to stakeholders and the public.
\nAyodele recalled Adenuga\u2019s outstanding performance at the Apapa Area Command, where he said the controller played a behind-the-scenes role in the unprecedented revenue achievements recorded while serving as Deputy Comptroller in charge of revenue.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adeniyi, has extended the service\u2019s condolences to the Badagry Kingdom over the death of the Oba of Badagry, with Comptroller Adenuga representing him at the palace on Jan. 21, 2026, to commiserate with the chiefs and people of the ancient town.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
