The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has reaffirmed its commitment to partner with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Area Command, in tackling smuggling and drug abuse among youths. <\/p>\n
During a courtesy visit on January 22, 2026, NAOSS leaders congratulated the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Olukayode Afeni, on his appointment and praised the Command\u2019s operational successes. NAOSS Global President, Comrade Olubodun Olalekan, commended Afeni for intercepting illicit drugs, arms, and ammunition, stressing that such achievements safeguard young people from destructive influences. <\/p>\n
Olalekan highlighted the Command\u2019s strategic role in national security, particularly across border communities, and announced plans for a sensitisation rally to educate youths and the public on the dangers of smuggling and drug consumption. <\/p>\n
In his response, Afeni acknowledged the improved relationship between Customs officers and host communities at the Idiroko border, noting that confrontations have given way to peace and cooperation. He, however, expressed concern over the alarming volume of drugs intercepted daily, many involving young people, and called for collective efforts to break the \u201cbuyer-seller cycle.\u201d <\/p>\n
