The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has issued a scathing statement distancing itself from any proposed political alliance between former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and ex-Kano State Governor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 presidential election.<\/p>\n
In a press release signed by Dr. Agbo Major, the National Chairman of the NNPP, the party described the rumoured joint ticket, allegedly being brokered by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, as \u201cimaginary, deceptive, and an illusion.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr. Major dismissed Senator Kwankwaso\u2019s political relevance, claiming he is now \u201ca general without troops\u201d following the defection of key allies from the Kwankwasiyya movement to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Among those named were Hon. Ali Madaki, Senator Sumaila Kawu, Hon. Alhassan Rurum, and Prof. Rufai Alkali, who reportedly left due to \u201carrogance, greed, and betrayal of trust.\u201d<\/p>\n
The NNPP chairman warned Peter Obi, leader of the Obedient Movement, to steer clear of any alliance with Kwankwaso, citing unresolved legal issues and Kwankwaso\u2019s expulsion from the party\u2014decisions upheld by both the Abia and FCT High Courts in 2025.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf Mr. Peter Obi and Senator Kwankwaso think they can use NNPP as a fallback after a failed primary bid in the ADC, they are mistaken,\u201d Dr. Major stated.<\/p>\n
He also criticized Obi for not consulting NNPP founder Dr. Boniface Aniebonam during the 2023 election cycle, which he claimed could have facilitated a successful joint ticket at the time.<\/p>\n
The statement emphasized that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State is now the de facto leader of the NNPP, being the highest-ranking elected official in the party. It concluded with a stern warning to Obi: \u201cExercise restraint in dealing with Kwankwaso to avoid destroying the reputation and cohesion of the Obedient Movement.\u201d<\/p>\n
