At the 30th anniversary celebration of Port News newspaper in Apapa, Lagos, the Managing Director and CEO of Zarmmak Container Terminal Limited, Barrister Caleb Muoka, called for the implementation of a local content policy to protect indigenous bonded terminal operators from foreign dominance.<\/p>\n
Muoka expressed concern that the absence of a local content framework has left the bonded terminal industry vulnerable to foreign competition, sidelining Nigerian operators.<\/p>\n
He urged the government to reserve bonded terminal operations exclusively for indigenous practitioners, drawing parallels with South Africa\u2019s approach to empowering local stakeholders in its maritime sector.<\/p>\n
Muoka appealed to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to support local terminal operators in a way that will be beneficial and ensure consistent cargo for local operators, which would help sustain Nigerian businesses and jobs in the maritime industry.<\/p>\n
The Zarmmak chief executive was honoured with an award for his 26 years of dedicated service and contributions to the Nigerian maritime sector, acknowledging his resilience through challenging times and his role in the sector\u2019s gradual recovery.<\/p>\n
Muoka concluded by thanking Port News Newspaper for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for policies that prioritize Nigerian interests in the shipping and logistics space.<\/p>\n
