INEC has called on security agencies to provide adequate security for its national officers in Adamawa.<\/p>\n
Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, made the call in a statement in Abuja on Sunday following reports of maltreatment of some INEC officials in Yola.<\/p>\n
He said that the commission was disturbed by the harassment of its officers in the state and warned that nothing should happen to its officers in the state.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Commission is deeply disturbed by the harassment of our two National Commissioners deployed to the State to ensure a peaceful and credible supplementary election.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe urge the security agencies to provide them with necessary security and ensure that nothing untoward befalls them.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe two National Commissioners, the Returning Officer and other staff of the Commission must be allowed to perform their duties without let or hindrance,\u201d Okoye said.<\/p>\n
Okoye said that INEC would not condone any act of lawlessness or brigandage targeted at its officials or the process of the election in the state.<\/p>\n
INEC had earlier condemned the purported declaration of the result declared by its REC in the Adamawa State Governorship election.<\/p>\n
It described the REC\u2019s action as usurpation of the power of the Returning Officer and therefore his pronouncement null, void and of no effect.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
