From Lagos to Port Harcourt and across Nigeria\u2019s maritime corridors, Prince Olayiwola Shittu is a name that commands respect. Simply known as \u201cPrince Shittu\u201d he is a pioneering customs broker, visionary entrepreneur, and a generous soul whose influence spans decades.<\/p>\n
Born in Epe, Lagos State, Prince Shittu hails from the esteemed Alao Sanusi family of Obaago, Igboho in Oyo State. As the first son in a large polygamous family, he began his education at the Islamic Centre, Epe, founded by his father\u2014an itinerant Islamic preacher. Despite initial resistance to Western education, he later attended Ansar\u2019Udeen Primary School, the Model School, and Epe Grammar School.<\/p>\n
After high school, he joined the Post & Telecommunications Department, trained at Oshodi, and later transferred his service to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). His dedication was evident at Koko Port, where he worked tirelessly during the arrival of the first commercial vessel carrying Mitsubishi Lancer cars.<\/p>\n
In 1984, he left salaried employment and relocated to Port Harcourt to start his own business. Thus began the journey of Skelas Group, a name derived from his family initials. With honesty and goodwill, he built a thriving customs brokerage firm that expanded into multiple sectors.<\/p>\n
Skelas Group was built on trust, empowerment and rewards. Skelas Group’s staff who serve 10 years receive land parcels. Ambitious employees are also supported to obtain operational licenses. The company\u2019s reputation for integrity has earned long-term retainerships and referrals.<\/p>\n
Prince Olayiwola’s popularity among his peers made him to become the Chairman, Port Harcourt Airport Chapter of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) in 1986, and later served as the association’s National Publicity Secretary from 1999 to 2003. In 2010, became the National President of the ANLCA. In 2012, he got the membership of the International Federation of Customs Brokers Association (IFCBA) in Greece. In 2013, he led a delegation of the association\u2019s members to South Africa and South Korea for the Break Bulk training programmes. In July 2013, he made ANLCA shine with the African Maritime & Energy \u2018Meritorious Award\u2019 when the association was recognised as \u2018AMES Customs Broker Association of the Year in Africa\u2019, which was organized by the African Business and Logistics Support Services (ABSLSS) at the Mount Nelson Hotel, Cape Town, South Africa.
\nHe joined the IFCBA India in 2014, while that of Shangai, China was in 2016.
\nHe tenure as ANLCA President brought peace and tranquility to the Customs brokerage and freight forwarding profession as he ended the long-standing feud between ANLCA and NAGAFF by extending an offer of friendship to the NAGAFF leadership.
\n Prince Shittu improved the association’s finances. He introduced strict rules against cash payments and mandatory use of cheques or vouchers for transactions, along with meticulous record-keeping. He also
\nimplemented a biometric ID system for members. His outstanding performance made him the first and only President of ANLCA to be elected twice.
\nBeing an accomplished administrator and leader, Prince Shittu oversaw the construction of a befitting permanent national secretariat for ANLCA, the ultra-modern Dikko Inde House in Lagos.<\/p>\n
Over the years, Prince Olayiwola Shittu has proved by his leadership style in ANLCA and in his private life that he is a great leader and a positive force to reckon with. Over the years, he led several delegations of members of the association on training courses, both locally and internationally. His focus has also remained on the need to raise and groom a crop of highly informed young people who are able to handle trade matters from a knowledgeable point of view.<\/p>\n
Inspired by his father\u2019s selflessness, Prince Shittu is known for his philanthropy and religious tolerance. He remains committed to grooming young professionals.<\/p>\n
