The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), led by Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has officially confirmed Comrade Oniha Erazua as the substantive Secretary-General of the Union. The announcement was made on Friday, August 13, 2025, during a joint session of the National Administrative Committee (NAC) and the Central Working Committee (CWC).<\/p>\n
Comrade Oniha, who had been serving in an acting capacity for six months, steps into the role following the retirement of Comrade Felix Akingboye. A seasoned unionist, Oniha previously held the positions of Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General, where he oversaw Training & Research, Education, and Media. He hails from Edo State and holds a Master\u2019s degree from the University of Ibadan. Before joining MWUN, he had a brief career in teaching.<\/p>\n
Also Comrade Olangwe Fred Dagogo who was the former Organising Secretary, has been promoted to General Secretary of the Seamen & Water Transport Branch. He is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Port Harcourt and is known for his diligent service.<\/p>\n
Comrade Joseph Ekwere’s appointment as General Secretary of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Branch has also been confirmed. He previously served as Computer Secretary under the Seamen & Water Transport Branch. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Lagos.<\/p>\n
