In a major stride toward strengthening Nigeria\u2019s maritime sector, the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, has officially inaugurated the new Governing Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). The event, held on Monday, 30th June 2025, at the Ministry\u2019s Conference Room in Abuja, signals a firm alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu\u2019s reform agenda focused on improving trade efficiency, transparency, and sustainable blue economy growth.<\/p>\n
According to a statement by Dr. Bolaji Akinola, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister, Oyetola underscored the statutory role of the Governing Board in policy oversight\u2014particularly in staffing and financial governance\u2014through its Staff and Establishment Committee and Finance Committee. He reaffirmed that the execution of daily operations remains under the purview of the NPA\u2019s executive management, in line with provisions of the NPA Act and the Public Procurement Act of 2007.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Board must chart strategic direction without interfering in operational duties,\u201d the Minister stated, urging members to uphold professionalism, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to national development.<\/p>\n
Board Chairman, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and commended Minister Oyetola for his support. He highlighted the board\u2019s breadth of expertise and pledged to work collaboratively with the NPA management and the Ministry to deliver a globally competitive and modern port system.<\/p>\n
