For its impressive performance in shoring up revenue by 40 per cent, Ogun II Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service has been commended by the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi. This impressed the CGC to pledge support to the command to address its operational challenges. He pledged the support during a working visit to the Command Headquarters in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Wednesday, 11 June 2025. <\/p>\n
During the visit, the CGC was received by the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Bisi Alade, alongside other senior Command officers. In his welcome address, Comptroller Alade described the CGC\u2019s visit as a morale booster for the command’s officers and men.<\/p>\n
\u201cYour presence here today, sir, is not only encouraging but also a strong indication of your commitment to every arm of the Service,\u201d Alade stated. \u201cIt has uplifted the spirit of our officers and reinforced our resolve to deliver on the Service\u2019s mandate with renewed vigour.\u201d<\/p>\n
Highlighting the structure and achievements of the Command from January to April 2025, Comptroller Alade disclosed that Ogun II generated a total revenue of \u20a615.191 billion, representing a 40 per cent increase compared to the \u20a69.165 billion recorded during the same period in 2024.<\/p>\n
According to him, the Ogun II Command oversees three Free Trade Zones, 67 excise factories, and one bonded terminal, making it a strategic revenue-generating and industrial oversight zone within the Nigeria Customs Service architecture.<\/p>\n
Reaffirming the Command\u2019s commitment, Alade added: \u201cWe shall continue to remain focused, disciplined, and professional in the discharge of our duties, while aligning with the CGC\u2019s reform agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, he drew attention to several challenges facing the Command, including inadequate operational vehicles, medical laboratory equipment at the Command\u2019s clinic, the need to renovate two 30-man rank-and-file quarters, improved borehole facilities, and the installation of a solar power system for the office complex.<\/p>\n
In response, CGC Adeniyi commended the Command\u2019s performance and assured that the management would consider the issues raised. He urged officers to prioritise continuous professional development, stressing that competence, knowledge, and dedication are essential to effectively discharging the Service\u2019s responsibilities.<\/p>\n
The CGC also praised Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State, for leveraging the state\u2019s strategic location as Nigeria\u2019s industrial gateway, particularly in light of its shared border with the Republic of Benin.<\/p>\n
\u201cOgun State is a strategic location in Nigeria, and the Governor is clearly repositioning the state for industrial growth,\u201d Adeniyi remarked.<\/p>\n
He assured the government and people of Ogun State that the Nigeria Customs Service remains a committed partner in driving the nation\u2019s economic prosperity.
