The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described President Bola Tinubu\u2019s Independence Day speech as filled with false claims and lacked solutions to Nigeria\u2019s pressing issues.<\/p>\n
In a statement on the Independence Day by Debo Ologunagba, PDP\u2019s spokesperson, the opposition party stated that Tinubu\u2019s address was \u201canother lethargic and windy rhetoric of false performance claims and empty promises ostensibly scripted to delude Nigerians in the face of abysmal failure\u201d by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/p>\n
The PDP described the president\u2019s speech as a \u201ccomplete waste of time,\u201d saying it failed to address or offer solutions to the numerous economic and security problems plaguing the country.<\/p>\n
The party stated that by the speech, President Tinubu has further exposed the insensitivity of his administration towards the plight and demands of Nigerians, which clearly authenticated PDP\u2019s position that there is no hope in sight under the overtly clueless, insensitive, and unresponsive APC-led government.<\/p>\n
The PDP further criticised Tinubu for not responding to the cries of Nigerians by reviewing what it called \u201clife-suffocating policies,\u201d warning that this failure has pushed the country toward \u201ctotalitarianism.\u201d<\/p>\n
It lamented that Mr. President\u2019s speech practically trivialized the very grave issues of pervasive economic hardship, unemployment, acute poverty, widespread hunger, and starvation in the country.<\/p>\n
The party also labelled Tinubu\u2019s assurances of economic improvement, lower cost of living, and food sufficiency as \u201cirreconcilable\u201d with the reality on the ground.<\/p>\n
\u201cEqually appalling is Mr. President\u2019s irreconcilable assurances of micro-economic improvement, lower cost of living, and food sufficiency, when in reality his administration has failed to lower the price of fuel \u2014 the key driver of our nation\u2019s economy \u2014 failed to inject resources into the productive sector to boost employment, stem the slide of the Naira, and made no tangible investment in food production in any part of the country,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n
The PDP flayed Tinubu for not addressing the reduction of fuel prices, the creation of jobs, or the value of the naira.<\/p>\n
It further maintained that the government\u2019s \u201cprofligacy\u201d and failure to invest in the productive sector showed a disconnect from the concerns of ordinary Nigerians.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe failure by Mr. President to listen to Nigeria, to reduce the price of fuel, create employment, and lift the value of the Naira by ending the profligacy in his government and directing resources to jumpstart our ailing productive sector, shows that the APC administration is completely disconnected with Nigerians, especially the youths,\u201d the party said.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the party raised concerns about the erosion of democracy, noting the silence on issues of credible elections and attacks on citizens\u2019 constitutionally guaranteed rights.<\/p>\n
\u201cMoreover, from the speech, it is clear that the APC-led administration is determined to stifle our nation\u2019s democracy; the very fundamental of any independent nation as it is loudly silent on the erosion of credible elections and constant attacks on constitutionally guaranteed rights of citizens in our country under its watch,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
