There is palpable tension in Edo State as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that the collation of results for the Edo governorship election will resume this morning Sunday at 10am.<\/p>\n
The collation centre for the election was opened at 9pm on Saturday, September 21, soon after polling ended in the state.<\/p>\n
In a statement on Sunday,
\nThe resident electoral commissioner (REC) in the state, Anugbum Onuoha, said the \u201ccollation process is being conducted transparently and in accordance with the guidelines of INEC\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe appreciate the patience and cooperation of all parties as we strive to ensure a credible and accurate outcome of this important election,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n
Onuoha also asked stakeholders to maintain peace and order as the commission seeks to conclude the process.<\/p>\n
The request by police that journalists and election observers should leave the collation centre has heightened the tension.<\/p>\n
