The Oyo\/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, under the distinguished leadership of the Customs Area Controller, Dr. Ben Oramalugo PhD, FCIA, FNIM, successfully conducted yet another comprehensive environmental sanitation exercise at the Customs Barracks in Ijokodo, Ibadan.
\nAccording to a press statement issued by SC Kayode Wey, the command’s Public Relations Officer, the event, held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, which is an initiative of the Customs Area Controller demonstrated the Command’s commitment to maintaining a clean, healthy, and safe environment for all personnel and their families.
\nThe sanitation initiative also aligns with the Work Life Balance of the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MNIPR, dsm, fnipr, PSC (+), a broader environmental sustainability goals of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), which seeks to integrate eco-friendly practices within its operations, national environmental sanitation policies and reinforces the Command’s dedication to community health and well-being.
\nThe sanitation exercise, which commenced at 7:00 am, saw enthusiastic participation from Customs Officers, their families, and other residents of the barrack. The event included various activities such as cleaning of the barracks premises, clearing of drainage systems, and proper waste disposal. The exercise is aimed not only at improving the hygiene of the barracks but also at fostering a sense of community and responsibility among the residents.
\nIn his remarks, the controller stated that the sanitation exercise is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that Customs living and working conditions are conducive to health and efficiency, as he emphasized the importance of cleanliness and hygiene as vital components of operational efficiency and community welfare. “Our barrack is not just a place where we reside; it is a reflection of our commitment to excellence and discipline. Ensuring a clean environment is paramount to our health, morale, and overall effectiveness,” he stated.
\n Oramalugo also took the opportunity to sensitize residents on sustainable waste management practices and the importance of maintaining a clean environment, as he urged all Barracks residents to adopt regular sanitation habits to prevent environmental degradation and promote public health.
\nThe Customs Area Controller expressed his gratitude to all participants for their enthusiastic involvement and commitment to the cause. He also acknowledged that the collaborative effort highlighted the strong sense of community and responsibility among the residents.
\nHe added that by encouraging such activities, Oyo\/Osun Area Command aims to set a precedent for other commands and communities to follow, as the Oyo\/Osun Area Command remains dedicated to enhancing the welfare of its officers and fostering a culture of environmental consciousness.
