As the social media especially Facebook awash with advertisements of auction goods and recruitments purportedly from Nigeria Customs Service (NSC), the Service has issued a crucial scam alert regarding
\nthe escalating activities of fraudulent entities preying on unsuspecting individuals
\nthrough such platforms, falsely claiming association with the NCS for
\npurposes of auctions or recruitment.
\nA press statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer of NCS, CSC Abdullahi Maiwada, noted that
\nrecent events have brought to the organization’s attention a surge in scams orchestrated by
\ndeceitful individuals impersonating high-ranking officials within the Service.
\nAccording to the statement, “These
\nfraudulent tactics exploit the public’s trust, promoting fictitious auctions and sham
\nrecruitment drives purportedly endorsed by our service.”
\nThe statement explained that all seized\/overtime goods have laid down Standard Operating Procedure
\n(SOP) for disposal in line with the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, adding that while these
\nitems might be in Customs custody, NCS officials are only authorized to conduct auctions
\nor recruitment with the requisite legal backing in line with its processes and
\nprocedures.
\nIt asserted unequivocally that auctions of seized goods are never
\nconducted via any social media platform, warning that any such claims on social media should
\nbe treated as fraudulent and promptly reported.
\nThe statement further advised the public to verify information exclusively
\nthrough the official NCS website, www.customs.gov.ng. for accurate and updated details about the Nigeria Customs Service and its
\noperations.

\n“These channels are
\ncommitted to providing accurate and authenticated updates on our service and
\nactivities. Individuals are advised to visit any Customs formation nationwide and meet
\nwith the Public Relations Officers (PROs) to verify any financial commitments
\nrelated to seized goods or recruitment before proceeding.
\n“Our commitment remains unwavering in protecting the public from fraudulent
\nactivities. We implore everyone to exercise vigilance and prudence when approached
\nwith offers or announcements regarding Customs auctions or recruitment,” the statement further said.

\nsuspicious activities should be reported to the nearest Customs office or through NCS
