The Seme-Badagry Customs command received an unprecedented revenue boost of over N600million within a month of assumption of office of Comptroller Timi Bomodi as the area controller.
\nCompetent sources told People’s Forum Online that as soon as Bomodi assumed office he plugged every loopholes through which duties could be evaded.
\nThe resultant effect of tightening the noose through which revenue could be lost is the unprecedented recording of over N600million in one month, the sources said.
\nImpeccable sources however, said that many unscrupulous shippers and their agents reacted to Bomodi’s zero tolerance for revenue leakages by diverting their goods to another area.
\nThe sources told People’s Forum Online that they diverted their goods to Niger Republic with the view to bring them to Nigeria through Kebbi State.
\nThis, the sources said, is responsible for the present lull in business activities at the Seme Border.
\nThis online channel further learnt that the shippers met brick walls in their bid to pass through Niger Republic to Nigeria and are being forced to come back.
\n“If not that some importers ganged up to stop using Seme border, the command would have by now generated over a billion naira in less than six weeks of Bomodi’s resumption at Seme”, a source told this online channel.
\nAccording to the sources, the importers have been forced to come back to Seme because the area they earlier diverted their goods to couldn’t ensure safety of their goods.
