President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday night held a meeting with the APC senators-elect on the election of leaders of the 10th National Assembly at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.<\/p>\n
According to the Akpabio\/Jibrin Media Team, the meeting was held to garner support for Sen. Godswill Akpabio, who has been chosen as the party\u2019s choice as the Senate President for the 10th National Assembly.<\/p>\n
The National Working Committee of the APC, had met last month and announced Akpabio as the choice of the party for the Senate President, while Barau jibrin was chosen as Deputy Senate President.<\/p>\n
At yesterday\u2019s meeting, Tinubu appealed to the 40 APC Senators-elect to abide by the zoning arrangement as announced by the party\u2019s National Working Committee NWC.<\/p>\n
He said:\u201cthis is the right thing to do in support of the Renewed Hope agenda\u201d of his administration<\/p>\n
\u201cAt this point of our history and challenges facing us as a new administration, all hands must be on deck to salvage the unpalatable situation facing the nation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must see the situation as a pan-Nigerian project for the executive and the legislature to work out solutions to the challenges of the nation<\/p>\n
\u201cThe task ahead to finding solutions to the myriads of national problems cannot come from the Executive arm of government alone, but by the working together of the executive and the legislature.<\/p>\n
\u201cTalk to your colleagues that are not here to toe the party line and give the Renewed Hope agenda a chance to succeed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe elephant is big enough for all members and indeed Nigerians to have a share of the Renewed Hope in due course,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Akpabio took advantage of the meeting to appeal to his colleagues to heed President Tinubu\u2019s appeal to toe the party\u2019s line of choice in the election.<\/p>\n
He said that since the party announced the zoning arrangements for the leadership of the National Assembly, majority of the party\u2019s Senators-elect, led by him and Senator Jibrin had reached out to other APC Senators-elect and those from the opposition political parties with positive result and pledge of support.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
