The immediate past Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers\u2019 Council (NSC),
\nBarr.Hassan Bello, has been conferred with the prestigious National Honours
\nAward of Order of the Niger (OON) while the former Director, Commercial Shipping of the Council, Mrs. Shall-Holma received the same OON for her contributions to the development of the nation’s transportation sector.
\nBello, who had been listed for the award by the administration of former President
\nMuhammadu Buhari, received it in Abuja on June1, 2023.
\nIt was gathered that the award conferred on Bello was in recognition of his
\ncontribution to the maritime sector in the eight years he served as Executive
\nSecretary of Nigerian Shippers\u2019 Council.
\nSpeaking, Barr.Bello said, \u201cMy profound gratitude goes to former President,
\nCommander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria,
\nMuhammadu Buhari. I am humbled that I have been conferred with the
\nprestigious National Award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).\u201d
\n\u201cThis honour at this point in the history of our nation, fills my heart with sincere
\ngratitude to the president, the nation, the transport Ministry as well as the maritime
\nsector where I was given the opportunity to serve as executive secretary of the NSC
\nfor eight years.
\nMr. Hassan Bello has been widely commended for engendering harmony amongst
\nstakeholders through inclusive and collaborative regulation.
\nMrs.Shall-Holma spearheaded the project to produce navigational charts for lower
\nRiver Niger covering a total area of 1,719.8km and a total distance of 593.9km
