{"id":1501,"date":"2023-05-05T15:56:20","date_gmt":"2023-05-05T15:56:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peoplesforumonline.com.ng\/about\/?p=1501"},"modified":"2023-05-05T15:56:20","modified_gmt":"2023-05-05T15:56:20","slug":"organ-harvesting-ekweremadu-bags-ten-years-jail-term-in-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peoplesforumonline.com.ng\/about\/2023\/05\/05\/organ-harvesting-ekweremadu-bags-ten-years-jail-term-in-uk\/","title":{"rendered":"Organ harvesting: Ekweremadu bags ten years jail term in UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A UK court has on Friday sentenced former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu to nine years and eight months in jail for plotting to harvest a man\u2019s kidney for his sick daughter.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Ekweremadu\u2019s wife Beatrice was handed four years, six months sentence, while Obinna Obeta, a medical doctor, got a 10 years\u2019 sentence for the same offence.<\/p>\n<p>Recall the trio of Ekweremadu, Beatrice, and Obeta were convicted of conspiracy to arrange the travel of a young Nigerian man who was identified as David Nwamini to Britain in order to exploit him for his kidney.<\/p>\n<p>The organ was needed for Ekweremadu\u2019s sick daughter, Sonia.<\/p>\n<p>Their trial lasted for six weeks, and conviction at the Old Bailey, London\u2019s Central Criminal Court, is expected today.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor, Hugh Davies, told the jury that the behaviour of Ekweremadu showed \u201centitlement, dishonesty and hypocrisy\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A UK court has on Friday sentenced former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu to nine years and eight months in jail for plotting to harvest a man\u2019s kidney for his sick daughter.
