{"id":10245,"date":"2026-05-14T19:35:31","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T19:35:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peoplesforumonline.com.ng\/about\/?p=10245"},"modified":"2026-05-14T19:35:31","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T19:35:31","slug":"cgc-adeniyi-reaffirms-commitment-to-responsible-digital-transformation-innovation-driven-governance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peoplesforumonline.com.ng\/about\/2026\/05\/14\/cgc-adeniyi-reaffirms-commitment-to-responsible-digital-transformation-innovation-driven-governance\/","title":{"rendered":"CGC Adeniyi Reaffirms Commitment to Responsible Digital Transformation, Innovation-Driven Governance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi MFR, has reaffirmed his dedication to responsible digital transformation and innovation-driven governance during his keynote address at the 4th Biennial International Conference of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, University of Ilorin, held in collaboration with the Faculty of Philology, RUDN University, Russia.  <\/p>\n<p>The conference, themed \u201cDisruptive Technology: Human and Artificial Intelligence in the Digital Economy,\u201d convened academics, communication scholars, technology experts, policymakers, and institutional leaders to examine the impact of digital innovation and artificial intelligence on governance, education, trade, and economic development.  <\/p>\n<p>In his remarks, CGC Adeniyi emphasized the need to balance technological advancement with human responsibility, stressing that the digital economy\u2019s future depends not only on artificial intelligence but also on ethics, leadership, and institutional competence.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe digital age is, in the end, a human story, and the real test of our generation is not how powerful our machines become, but how wisely our societies choose to use them,\u201d Adeniyi stated.  <\/p>\n<p>Highlighting the Nigeria Customs Service\u2019s ongoing modernization, he cited the deployment of the B\u2019Odogwu Unified Customs Management System, which has streamlined trade facilitation, cargo processing, and inter-agency collaboration. The platform has generated over \u20a6230 billion at the PTML Command within its first eight months, while reducing cargo clearance timelines for compliant traders to less than eight hours.  <\/p>\n<p>Adeniyi underscored that the true value of disruptive technology lies in partnership between human expertise and artificial intelligence, noting that while AI enhances efficiency and risk management, leadership and institutional purpose remain central to governance.  <\/p>\n<p>The CGC also called for stronger collaboration among universities, research institutions, and public agencies to develop practical solutions to emerging digital and governance challenges. He noted that universities must move beyond theoretical learning to become active drivers of innovation and policy development.<\/p>\n<p>He identified several research areas where academia can support Customs modernisation efforts, including digital compliance systems, artificial intelligence-driven risk targeting, public trust communication strategies, and governance of cross-border data flows.<\/p>\n<p>Adeniyi further urged African countries to develop locally relevant digital governance frameworks rooted in African realities, legal systems, and developmental priorities, stressing that technological advancement must remain accountable to the citizens it serves.<\/p>\n<p>On the sidelines of the conference, the CGC engaged with heads of other government agencies, scholars, communication professionals, traditional leaders, and institutional leaders on opportunities for collaboration in digital research, innovation, community development, and capacity development.<\/p>\n<p>He further called for stronger collaboration between universities, research institutions, and public agencies to develop practical solutions to emerging digital challenges.
