Prince Olayiwola Shittu JP, a distinguished maritime leader and business executive, has been appointed as an International Peace Advocate by the Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC), in recognition of his outstanding contributions to peacebuilding and industry development.
The formal investiture will take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, coinciding with the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace.
Founded in 2001 and affiliated with the United Nations and UNESCO, UN-POLAC promotes peace, security, and human dignity in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and UNESCO’s culture of peace initiatives.
Shittu’s appointment reflects his longstanding commitment to conflict resolution and unity within Nigeria’s maritime sector. As a two-time President of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) and Chairman of SKELAS Group, he has earned respect as a mediator and consensus-builder. His leadership of the Maritime Industry Merit Awards (MIMA) further cemented his reputation as a unifying figure.
According to UN-POLAC trustees, the honour recognises Shittu’s integrity, dedication to community service, and consistent efforts to promote social harmony. The appointment comes with several privileges, including a certificate of appointment, international identity card, investiture apparel, a flag of authority, and a special vehicle number plate in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
In his new role, Shittu will be called upon to participate in peace-building initiatives, mediation efforts, and programmes that foster cooperation and positive living.
Reacting to the honour, Shittu expressed gratitude:
“I sincerely appreciate UN-POLAC for this distinguished recognition. I accept with humility and a strong sense of responsibility to further advance peace, unity, and constructive dialogue within the maritime sector and the wider society. I remain committed to promoting harmony, mutual respect, and sustainable development.”
The annual investiture ceremony is expected to draw key stakeholders from the maritime industry and beyond, celebrating individuals who exemplify leadership, peace advocacy, and community development.
