The President‑General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has been conferred with the Impactful Leadership Award by Landmark Africa Media Magazine in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s socio‑economic and political development. The honor was presented as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

According to the management of Landmark Africa Media Magazine, Comrade Bunu stands out as one of the foremost labor leaders in the country. His achievements within a short period as MWUN President‑General have brought innovation, clarity of purpose, and distinct leadership to the maritime sector and the wider labor industry.

Comrade Bunu’s journey in labor activism dates back to his early days as a junior member of MWUN, where he consistently demonstrated that trade unionism is defined by practical action rather than rhetoric. His dedication and results‑driven leadership earned him this prestigious recognition.

The publishing outfit highlighted his remarkable achievements in the maritime sector, describing them as a “tall feat of progress for humanity and the industry,” given the brevity of his tenure so far.

Although unavoidably absent at the award presentation, Comrade Bunu expressed heartfelt appreciation through the Union’s Secretary‑General, Comrade Oniha Erazua, who received the plaque on his behalf. He described the honor as deeply merited and thanked Landmark Africa Media for their insight and commitment to truth in reporting.

The MWUN management also extended gratitude to the publishers, urging them to continue their commendable work in promoting integrity and excellence.
