The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has introduced the Green Channel initiative, a major step toward streamlining port operations and reducing the time and cost of doing business in Nigeria.
Under the new system, containers will move directly from vessels to a dedicated examination area, eliminating delays and inefficiencies that have long plagued port clearance.
Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, explained that the Green Channel reflects the trust and confidence built with stakeholders, enabling smoother trade facilitation.
The initiative is expected to boost government revenue, lower logistics costs for businesses, and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in regional and global trade.
Operations will be carried out in designated areas, with containers tracked and monitored online to ensure transparency and accountability. While efficiency is expected to rise, the number of containers cleared daily will still depend on vessel arrivals.
The Green Channel marks a significant step toward modernizing Nigeria’s ports and positioning the country as a stronger player in international commerce.
