The Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has exceeded its 2025 revenue target of ₦1.52 with a total collection of ₦1.576 trillion—an impressive surplus of ₦51.84 billion.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, Comptroller Frank O. Onyeka, the Area Controller, described the achievement as a testament to the Command’s discipline, professionalism, and strategic reforms. He emphasized that the revenue growth was not coincidental but the result of deliberate efforts to enhance operational efficiency and accountability.
According to the controller, key revenue drivers included bulk cargo, general merchandise, and importation of used vehicles.
Onyeka highlighted that the Command prioritized eliminating revenue leakages and streamlining operations. “We tackled the issue of multiple and unnecessary alerts, which had previously slowed clearance processes and created opportunities for abuse. By refining our alert system and improving internal coordination, we boosted efficiency without compromising control,” he stated.
The Command also focused on fostering a trade-friendly environment through consistent engagement with stakeholders such as importers, licensed customs agents, terminal operators, and shipping lines.
Beyond revenue collection, the Command intensified its enforcement activities, leveraging intelligence-led operations to intercept prohibited and improperly declared goods. Onyeka reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to national security and economic integrity, stressing that enforcement standards would not be relaxed despite surpassing the revenue target.
He assured that officers remain fully mobilized to sustain revenue performance and compliance enforcement through the end of the year.
Comptroller Onyeka expressed deep appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, for his visionary leadership and institutional support. He credited the CGC’s emphasis on professionalism, automation, and stakeholder collaboration as foundational to the Command’s success.
He also commended the dedication of officers and the cooperation of stakeholders, noting their critical role in achieving this milestone.
