The Nigeria Customs Service has announced a change of leadership at its Ogun 1 Command, with Deputy Comptroller Olukayode Oladapo Afeni appointed as the Acting Customs Area Controller. The handover ceremony took place on Thursday, 4 December 2025, at the Command Headquarters in Idiroko, marking a seamless transition from outgoing Comptroller Godwin Otunla.
DC Afeni, a seasoned officer with nearly two decades of service, pledged to build on the Command’s achievements in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and anti-smuggling operations.
He emphasized intelligence-led enforcement, inter-agency collaboration, and personnel development as core priorities.
Afeni holds degrees in Industrial Design and Diplomacy & Strategic Studies, and has undergone extensive training in conflict resolution, leadership, and border operations.
In his farewell speech, Compt. Otunla described his tenure as “challenging yet fulfilling,” citing progress in smuggling suppression, trade facilitation, and inter-agency synergy.
This transition underscores the Service’s commitment to continuity, operational excellence, and national economic security.
