The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), under the leadership of President-General Comrade Francis Bunu Abi the Senior Staff Association of Shipping, Clearing & Forwarding Agency (SSASCFA) at its national headquarters on Osho Drive, Olodi Apapa, Lagos.
During the courtesy visit, SSASCFA President-General Comrade Harrison Ugochukwu Asonye expressed his admiration for Comrade Bunu’s dynamic leadership and swift reforms since assuming office. He commended the transformation of the dockworkers and praised the Union’s renewed energy and direction. Reflecting on his past visits under previous administrations, Comrade Harrison expressed confidence that Comrade Bunu’s tenure would surpass expectations, citing his vision, dedication, and commitment.
He emphasized the importance of rekindling the longstanding relationship between SSASCFA and MWUN, noting that collaboration is essential for operational efficiency in the maritime sector. He reaffirmed the Association’s readiness to work closely with MWUN and congratulated the Union’s leadership on their recent electoral success.
In response, Comrade Bunu welcomed the visit as a gesture of solidarity and mutual respect. He acknowledged the existing gap between the junior and senior cadres in the shipping sector and stressed the need for synergy. He pointed out that some shipping companies currently engage with only one of the two bodies, creating a disconnect that hinders collective progress.
To address this, Comrade Bunu proposed a joint membership drive and unionization effort to ensure comprehensive representation across the sector. He emphasized that such collaboration would strengthen both organizations and enhance industrial harmony.
Reaffirming MWUN’s commitment to partnership, Comrade Bunu assured SSASCFA of his unwavering support. He encouraged open communication and pledged to maintain an open-door policy for matters of mutual interest. He also promised to reciprocate the visit soon, reinforcing the shared goal of advancing the maritime industry through unity and cooperation.
