The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), under the leadership of Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has been officially commissioned by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to handle the distribution of electoral materials across Anambra State’s riverine areas ahead of the gubernatorial election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
This assignment builds on a longstanding partnership between MWUN and INEC, established during the tenure of former INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmud Yakubu. The Union has consistently demonstrated excellence in logistics, particularly in coastal and hard-to-reach regions, with a proven track record that includes the successful delivery of materials during the recent Rivers State Local Government Elections.
Equipped with high-speed flying boats and a skilled team of Seafarers, MWUN is well-prepared to ensure timely and secure delivery of voting materials. The Union’s President General, a veteran sailor and respected maritime labour leader, has assured Anambra residents of a smooth and efficient operation, promising a hitch-free election day.
The collaboration between INEC and MWUN continues to be a model of effective electoral logistics, and all systems are in place to support a successful democratic process in Anambra’s riverine communities.
