The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), under the leadership of Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, deeply mourns the passing of Comrade Abiodun Aremu, a fearless revolutionary and stalwart of the Nigerian labour movement.
Comrade Aremu was a founding Secretary of the Joint Action Front (JAF), Chairman of the Labour Service Coalition (LASCO), and a pioneer convener of the Action for Democracy (ADC). Through these platforms, he championed the cause of organized labour with unmatched passion and conviction, leaving a legacy that resonates across Nigeria, Africa, and the global labour community.
Aremu was widely regarded as the embodiment of labour activism—his ideology, philosophy, and unwavering commitment to workers’ rights will remain etched in history. His instinctive grasp of labour issues and his strategic leadership made him a formidable force in shaping the trajectory of the Nigerian labour movement.
Comrade Francis Bunu Abi described Aremu as a distinguished labour technocrat whose contributions to coordinating and strengthening labour structures are irreplaceable. His passing leaves a profound void in the industry that will be felt for generations.
The MWUN leadership and its national executive council extend heartfelt condolences to Comrade Aremu’s family, the government of Kwara State, and the people of Kwara. They pray that the Almighty grants him eternal rest and comforts his loved ones during this time of loss.
